iRobot ® Roomba 790 – Full Review

Previous models of the Roomba iRobot vacuum cleaner left a lot to be desired in their ability to clean, however the newer generation of Roombas such as the Roomba 790 have some of the most advanced features, which help them to be more productive for the users.

The Roomba 790 improved upon some of the pitfalls that consumers complained about with the 770 & 780 models such as

  • extra Hepa filters,
  • a wireless command center,
  • 3 instead of 2 virtual walls/lighthouse devices,
  • an extra set of brushes (side-3, bristle-2, and beater-2),
  • a special screwdriver,
  • 2 brush cleaning tools
  • and a storage case for the accessories.

One of the other attributes of this specific model of Roomba include its hybrid sensors (Dirt Detect2 technology) which contribute to its new ability to clean corners, detect more dirt, and to decipher between different types of floor surfaces.

The previous 700 series models can clean, but by most consumer accounts- they don’t clean as well as the 790.

The Roomba 790 is appealing because of its many improved features, and also because of the many extra accessories included with purchase. Its average retail price runs anywhere from $570 upwards to $700. But it appears to be worth it according to the majority of consumers who have purchased it.

Is the Roomba 790 a good robotic vacuum for you? Read further to decide for yourself…

iRobot Roomba 790: How Does it Work?

The Roomba 790 is a robot vacuum that helps to ease the time-consumption that using standard vacuums do, It can be programmed to clean your floors whenever you like, and it can handle all floor types. It sets out on its journey to clean your home and can also clean multiple rooms in one cleaning binge (when virtual walls and lighthouse devices are customized and turned on.

It will notify you when its battery life is nearing end, and will return to its docking station when it needs to be recharged or is finished with its cleaning tasks. It also has lights that will flash and change color when its charging, the bin needs emptied, or if it is having a problem.

The Roomba 790 basically works on the same premise as the previously released 700 series models (770, 780, 790).

However it has been tweaked and altered to provide the consumer with a more seamless cleaning experience that requires less intervention from the user with better cleaning technology, the wireless command center, and its more sensitive capabilities in detecting what, where, and if it has cleaned the surface efficiently.

I have 1 dog and 2 cats and it has helped keep the house so much cleaner. I was actually surprised on how much pet hair it picked up. “Overall, I like this Roomba; however, it goes crazy sometimes before finally regaining its sanity.”
(By Carolyn Drain, Amazon Rating Given: 3 Stars)

“The robot does a good job. I would never rely on it for end-to-end vacuuming, though. I think this is a tool to help keep your floors tidy in between cleanings with a big vacuum. The lighthouses and virtual walls that come with this Roomba are pretty awesome. Haven’t used the remote yet…seems unnecessary.”

About iRobot Company

The iRobot company that first introduced vacuum robots to the cleaning industry in 2002 is well known for its Roomba lines of vacuums which have automated the once dreaded chore of vacuuming and sweeping.
Since its debut, the iRobot Roomba vacuums have main-streamed robotic standards in cleaning bots and has released 10’s of different models- which has led to each consecutive series model being more advanced than the last.
iRobot has since introduced many other bot cleaning devices which can now mop, sweep, and more without the need for human interaction. The Roomba iRobot vacuum is by far the most popularly recognized robotic vacuum cleaner on the market scene today.

Final Recommendation: The Verdict

The Roomba 790 apparently is a step-up from the previous 500, 600, 700 series models (770, 780, 790). It cleans as powerfully as the 780 vacuum, but comes with a few more features- namely the accessories and replacement parts.
The biggest new feature that this latest bot has debuted is the wireless command center which enables a person to remote control, schedule, program, steer, and more from a 25ft span without touching the machine.
The Roomba 790 has garnered a vast amount of attention from consumers for its ability to proficiently clean floor surfaces without hassle. Most buyers of this specific model of the Roomba vacuum have been 100% satisfied with its performance as a cleaning beast, and have listed few adversities of its capabilities.
Although it is not much different in specs and cleaning power as the 780 Roomba, this bot came out like a boss in consumer reviews with one of the highest ratios of 4-5 star ratings from any bot vacuum on the market. However, some users reported that it gets stuck, or that it did not clean as well as they would have hoped (which is to be expected from any robotic device.)
If you are in the market for a new vacuum bot, the Roomba 790 is well worth a look. Its price may be a little higher than average, but all in all the extra features and precision technology in this device is enough to validate spending the dime on it.
